Black holes

Roger Penrose

* 1931 · Mathematician of singularities

The British mathematician proved that black holes are an inevitable consequence of Einstein’s relativity.

In the 1960s Penrose showed that collapsing stars unavoidably lead to a singularity, a point of infinite density.

For this work he received the 2020 Nobel Prize. It turned black holes from a curiosity into a serious prediction of physics.
