Quantum mechanics

Werner Heisenberg

1901–1976 · Founder of quantum mechanics

The German physicist formulated the uncertainty principle, a basic rule of the quantum world.

In 1927 Heisenberg showed that the position and momentum of a particle cannot both be determined with unlimited precision.

This limit is not a weakness of measurement but a deep property of nature. For it he received the Nobel Prize.
